MARY FLY MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIPS

will be available in the guidance offices of Evergreen High School and
Conifer High School starting January 1, 2011. Applications are due on
or before March 31, 2011. Applicants will be notified in April 2011.
Applicants must be 14 years, 6 months by March 31, 2011.
WHY IS DRIVER EDUCATION NEEDED?
Teenagers have more traffic crashes, resulting in higher insurance, injuries and death. Research has shown the driving problems of teenagers to be the result of driving inexperience, lack of adequate driving skills, driving during high risk hours, risk taking, and poor driving judgment and decision-making. In the mountains areas, there are other contributing factors, including road conditions and weather.
Driver Education can help reduce traffic crashes by giving students a better understanding of how drivers interact with the driving environment, knowledge about the driving process, improved driving skills, and better risk perception and decision-making. While parents and guardians have an important role to play in teaching their children to drive, they can be assisted and supported through Driver Education.
THE MARY FLY MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIPS:
The “Mary Fly Memorial Scholarships for Driver Education” honor a valued and dedicated member of the DRIVE SMART Board of Directors who died tragically in April, 1996. The scholarships are designed to offer driver education classes to students who, due to financial or other circumstances, would not otherwise have the opportunity to take them. Up to 15 scholarships are available in this grant cycle from Master Drive, Excel Driver Services, LLC and DriveSafe Driving Schools, and are made possible by the generosity of the driving schools, Drive Smart, and Evergreen Fire and Rescue.

behind-the-wheel training, consistent with Colorado State regulations.
The driving lessons take place in our company owned vehicles which are
equipped with special safety brakes and mirrors for the instructors.
The instructors customize each lesson to the skill of the student, but
generally they include a residential drive, a downtown drive, and a
