Volunteering
Events such as Skate the Lake would not happen without
the support of our fabulous volunteers! Anyone interested in volunteering
for Skate the Lake is encouraged to contact Grace Gabrielli, stlggg@aol.com.
DRIVE SMART seeks volunteers to participate in and
promote all of its community programs and events throughout the year.

Listed below are the volunteer positions we will need filled for our
New Year's Eve SKATE the LAKE event at the Evergreen Lake House. (Click
on any of the jobs, below, to go directly to the job description.)

Activity: Set-Up
(10 volunteers needed for outside, 10 needed for inside, from 2-5:00pm)
Please arrive at the Volunteer Check-In Trailer at 2:00 pm for your
shift. We will give each family a parking pass to park at the Lakehouse
during set-up. You will need to move your cars after your shift.
Outdoor set-up will include setting up tents, barricades,
setting up fire barrels, stacking firewood, moving picnic tables among
other duties. Heavy lifting - mostly men needed for this activity.
Dress appropriately for outdoor work. Please bring work gloves.
Indoor set-up includes blowing up balloons, hanging
decorations, banners and balloons among other decorating duties.
Activity:
Volunteer Check-In (2 volunteers per shift: 5:30-8:30pm, 8:30-11:45pm)
Please arrive at the Volunteer Check-In Trailer located in front of
the Lakehouse 15 minutes prior to your shift. Allow enough time to park
at one of the shuttle lots.
Sign in volunteers, verifying their personal contact information, and
make sure they know their responsibilities. Check off the volunteer’s
name when he or she checks in.
Hand out vests and equipment to those who need it. Equipment for the
evening includes game equipment, glow necklaces, costumes and noise
makers.
Assist the volunteers in locating their activity (fire barrells, etc.).
Offer refreshments to the volunteers.
At the end of your shift, please leave your volunteer vest in the Volunteer
Check-In Trailer. Last shift will spend the last hour of their time
helping with cleaning up the volunteer area.
Activity:
Refreshments (1 volunteer per shift: 5:45-8:30pm, 8:30-11:30pm)
Monitor volunteer food; make sure there is fresh coffee and hot chocolate
available throughout the night. Help prepare noise maker buckets. Last
shift will clean up volunteer tent area.
Activity: Security (4 volunteers
per shift: 5:30-7:45pm, 7:45-10 pm)
Help prevent "gate crashers" by standing along broad walk
or warming hut.
Activity: Will Call
(6 volunteers per shift: 5:30-8:30pm, 8:00-10:00pm)
Assist people with getting their pre-ordered tickets at the event.
Activity:
Ticket Checker (4 volunteers per shift: 5:45-8pm, 8-10pm)
Please arrive at the Volunteer Check-In Trailer 15 minutes prior to
your shift. Allow enough time to park at one of the shuttle lots.
Your job is to check tickets at the door. Children 8 and under are free,
but everyone else must have a ticket. If a person doesn't have a ticket,
direct them to Will-Call.
One person should work the line before the doors open helping people
attach their tickets to their coats, if needed.
At the end of your shift, please return your volunteer armband to the
Volunteer Check-In Trailer.

Activity:
Parking Lot Greeters-Off Site (6 per shift: 5:30-7:30pm, 7:30-9:30pm)
Please arrive at the Volunteer Check-In Trailer 15 minutes prior to
your shift. Allow enough time to park at one of the shuttle lots.
Take the shuttle back to the parking lot pick-up point at Safeway, Excel
Energy, the old Albertson's or Hiwan Homestead Museum parking lot. There
will be signs indicating the pick-up point for the shuttle vans. Assist
people with getting on and off the bus and give general information.
Hand out ties so people can attach their tickets to their coats.
Activity: Parking Lot Greeters-Lakehouse
(4 per shift: 5:30-7:30pm, 7:30-9:30pm, 9:30-11:30pm)
Greet people and assist those needing help getting on or off the buses.
Greeters will organize people to get back on buses after fireworks shows.
Activity: Fire Barrels-ADULTS
only (16 volunteers needed for each shift: 5:45-7:45pm, 7:45-10pm, 10-Midnight)
Please arrive at the Volunteer Check-In Trailer 15 minutes prior to
your shift. Allow enough time to park at one of the shuttle lots.
Each bonfire station will consist of a fire barrel and enough firewood
for the evening. You will be notified where your bonfire station is
located at Volunteer Check-In.
Keep the fire going at all times and invite skaters to warm up by the
fire and roast marshmallows. Feel free to put marshmallows on the roasting
sticks to entice the skaters over. Help the little ones in getting their
marshmallows roasted.
Bonfires should stay stocked with marshmallows. Call Grace at 303-842-9500
if you need more marshmallows and they will be brought to you.
Bonfire #1 will also assist with the sleigh rides, helping children
and adults onto the wagon.
Please wear appropriate clothing for tending a fire barrel. No long
coats or loose scarves. This is a very fun job, but we also want everyone
to be safe. Feel free to ask anyone to leave if they are not conducting
themselves properly.
Last shift - do not add wood to the fire
after 11:00 pm. At 11:30 add snow to put the fire out. At the end of
your shift, please return your volunteer vest to the Volunteer Check-In
Trailer.

Activity: Costumes/Costume
Helpers (4 volunteers needed for each shift: 5:45-7:45pm, 7:45-9:45pm)
Please arrive at the Volunteer Check-In Trailer 15 minutes prior to
your shift. Allow enough time to park at one of the shuttle lots. The
volunteer wearing the costume should allow ample time to change into
the costume. Once ready, your job is to just wander through the crowd
entertaining mainly the children.
The volunteer who is the helper should stay with and assist their costumed
character at all times.
At the end of your shift, please return your costume and volunteer vest
to the Volunteer Check-In Trailer.
Activity:
Kiddie Rink (2 volunteers needed from 5:45-8pm, 1 volunteer from 8-10pm)
Please arrive at the Volunteer Check-In Trailer 15 minutes prior to
your shift. Allow enough time to park at one of the shuttle lots.
The Kiddie Rink will be set up as a safe place for very small children
to skate.
Monitor the rink to assure its safety for small children. Assist the
skaters and parents in any way needed. Parents should stay with their
children and not leave them to your care. You are there only to monitor
the activities. Feel free to ask anyone to leave if they are not conducting
themselves properly.
At the end of your shift, please return your volunteer vest to the Volunteer
Check-In Trailer.
Activity: Ice Park (2
volunteers needed for each shift: 5:45-7:45pm, 7:45-9:45pm, 9:45-11:45pm)
Assist children in the new Ice Park.
Activity:
Volunteer Floater (4 volunteers for each shift: 5:30-7:30pm, 7:30-9:30pm,
9:30-Midnight)
Please arrive at the Volunteer Check-In Trailer 15 minutes prior to
your shift. Allow enough time to park at one of the shuttle lots.
Your main job functions are to collect all of the trash, keep the fire
barrel stations stocked with marshmallows and be available as needed.
If someone does not show up for their volunteer assignment, then you
will fill in for that person or fill in for any other need. Please check
in at the tent regularly and be available to Grace Gabrielli until the
end of your shift.
At the end of your shift, please return your volunteer vest to the Volunteer
Check-In Trailer.
Activity: Clean-Up
(30 volunteers needed from 11:30pm-1:30am. More volunteers means we're
finished sooner!)
Please arrive at the Volunteer Check-In Trailer at 11:30pm to meet and
receive your instructions for the midnight clean-up. You will receive
a parking pass for your shift. When the midnight fireworks have ended,
we will begin the clean-up.
Outdoor clean-up will include removing the fire barrels, firewood, and
picnic tables among other duties. Dress appropriately for outdoor work.
Please bring work gloves! Indoor clean-up includes removing all decorations
and banners and balloons among other duties. Return all banners and
pendants to the Volunteer Check-In Trailer.
